UPDATED 2024 The Wimberley Valley is located in the Texas Hill Country between Austin and San Antonio. Wimberley is a relaxing, fun and magical place to visit.

History

Wimberley was settled in the early 1800 before Texas became a state. It’s historic town square is still made up of the old stone buildings. Many of the early settles had fought in the battle of San Jacinto and were awarded land grants. In the 1870 a generous man, Mr. Wimberley, arrived in town, started the first non-profit, built schools an churches and purchased the town’s saw mill. The town was named Wimberley’s Mill, then it changed to Wimberleyville and later the post office shortened the name to Wimberley.

Stay

The Bygone (formally the Mountain View Lodge) has been reacently update with a cool, relaxing vibe, with record players and terrazzo.The pool deck is big and so are the Hill Country views

Creekhaven Inn stay right on the water, secluded but walking distance to the town square, Hill Country style Bed & Breakfast, spa on the Cypress Creek with kayaks and hot tub, and a gourmet breakfast included. We received our breakfast delivery in the middle of a huge rainstorm. The staff was super cheerful and the breakfast was hot and delicious. There’s no better place to stay on the water.

Hotel Flora and Fauna chic, retro, studio style hotel (formally a motel) with a pool, in room record player and local art close to the Leaning Pear restaurant

Wimberley Inn a nice compound of a hotel, with a great pool and bar, serving a nice brunch for guests and visitors, walking distance from shops and restaurants

7A Resort  Newly remodeled cabins across the street from the Blanco River. it's a good place for couples in the off season and better suited for families and groups during peak summer and holiday seasons

Wimberley Cafe Old fashion diner for breakfast or a sandwich for lunch Located in the town square 

Chills on the Creek (formally Inez) Bar and grill with a huge outdoor deck, located in the town square, with views of the beautiful Cypress Creek   Feathered Empty Nest Tip: try the Mexican Martini and the chips and queso

Community Pizza and Beer Garden  "Where good folks gather" Great selection of beer on tap, wood fired Neapolitan pizza, kid friendly, lots outdoor seating, gluten free and vegan options, full bar.  Located in the town square. Closed Monday and Tuesday.

Creek House An ice house style, open air bar and grill. Great for large groups, bar seating overlooking the water is so beautiful. Located in the town square. Live music on the weekends. Feathered Empty Nest Tip: Order a Wimberley Way at the bar, stick to simple menu item like Nachos and tacos.

Jobell Cafe & Bistro This is the perfect spot for a date night or lunch with friends. They have a beautiful appointed cheese plate, great appetizers and world class main courses, great specials, gluten free options, vegetarian options, and a well selected wine list. In nice weather they have a patio and on cold days the fireplace in the bar is toasty and warm. Reservations suggested.

Longleaf popular casual fine dining on the square, the bar has a great menu, the food is always great and there are many gluten free options Feathered Empty Nest Tip: Get a reservation on weekends and sit in the garden on a nice day

Middleton Brewing over a dozen different beers and a burger food truck with a great outdoor seating and music events. Located at the Junction,

Social and Hill Country Grazing Co. Two great venders in one hip location, you can grab a glass of wine or bubbles from Social’s well curated wine list and charcuterie plate from HCGC cooler to enjoy on the well designed outdoor seating area with umbrellas, enjoy the fire pit on cool days or enjoy the comfy seating indoors. Devil’s Backbone Tavern this 1937 roadhouse is full of charm and nice folks. They have events most weekend and great bands. If you want the true feeling of the Texas Hill Country you need to stop by here for a drink or two. Feathered Empty Nest Tip: Bring Cash or your ATM card this is a cash only business

Blue Hole Park  A year around park, shaded walking trails, and Summer swimming hole. Feathered Empty Nest Tip: get a reservation to swim on busy summer days.

Jacob's Well A beautiful park with hiking trails and natural spring swimming hole.  Feathered Empty Nest Tip: Swimming is by reservation only and are booked months in advance. originally discovered by a native American tribe and it is said they still haunt it. The hole is so deep scuba divers used to dive in the caverns inside until it was deemed too dangerous. Check out our TikTok video of Jacobs Well below.

7A Ranch River Day Pass If you aren’t a guest at 7A resort you can buy a day pass to park and swim in the Blanco River

Old Baldy  33 La Toya Cir Wimberley, TX 78676 An historic hill top lookout hike, accessed by 218 stairs. I nice hike and a great view. Saved by local fundraiser when land was to be sold. A Wimberley tradition. My mother-in-law used to attend (small) dances there in the 1950s

Wimberley Market Days  A huge outdoor market of vintage and handmade goods and a must visit attraction. It’s a great place to stroll, eat and listen to some music. First Saturday of the Month March through December. Feathered Empty Nest Tip: Go early, gates open at 7:30am and it can get crowded by 10am. Look for the tamale man on his golf cart.

Wimberley historic Town Square Shopping, wine tasting, gallery strolling, and eating in this historic town square. Some of our favorites are River House, Kiss the Cook, Ceremony Botanical, and Gracious Ladies

Seventh Son Vineyards Tasting Room This of the beaten path vineyard is on the beautiful ranch and has some of the best wine in the region. Open Saturdays and Sundays. Feathered Empty Nest Tip: When leaving here go just a few miles down the road to see the historic Fischer Hall, one of the oldest dance halls in Texas

Corral Theatre  A Wimberley Summer tradition since the 1940s. CLOSED

Wimberley Glass Works  Hand blown glass demonstrations, beautiful glass lighting and art. Fall brings glass pumpkins. Glass blowing classes offered.

Wimberley Zipline A beautiful view of the Hill Country for multiple zip-lines. A small amount of hiking involved. Early morning times are recommended on hot days.

Boot Artwork Map scattered around Wimberley are 4 foot tall boot sculptures, it fun to find them all, they make great photo ops

Emily Anne Theater and gardens - Annual trail of lights in Winter, Butterfly Festival in Spring, and theater productions. Check out the Today Show’s video about the Trail of Lights

Bella Vista Ranch  Beautiful olive orchard with tours and tastings.

Aloe Day Spa an Austin style day spa and shop with natural massages, facials and body treatments. located near the Leaning Pear restaurant

Devil's Backbone Historic scenic drive with lookout rest area on Take RR12 for the junction to 32.  There is a rest stop at the peak with breath taking views of the Wimberley Valley, stop by the Devils Backbone tavern for a drink and some music. Often said to be haunted.

Pioneer Town at 7A Ranch  a cute and kitschy Western town, Ice Cream Parlor, & a small arcade. Also parking for Blanco river access. The Walking Death show filmed part of a season here.
