Our road trip checklists

Prepare for your trip

Service your vehicle - tune up, oil changes, tire rotated and check fluids a few weeks before your trip
Rental a car - if you don’t want to put milage on your car or if you want a larger car for comfort
Notify your credit card companies - many will freeze your card if used out of state without notification
Plan out your route - determine how many days you will be on the road and where you might make stops
Print paper copies - if you are without your phone for some reason you will have your map, emergency numbers, and reservation information
Download Travel Apps - Tripit - Free trip planner and flight tracker, Road Trippers - step by step directions with stops along the way, Google Maps - great for directions and find places along your route, Dark Sky - the best weather app showing possibility of showers within minutes of them starting, we never walk the dog without checking it. Update Entertainment apps - Libby - take your library card online and download audiobooks, magazines and book for free, Audible - get a free book when you sign up SiriusXM - if you have this is your car you can take it anywhere with you, Apple music -our favorite subscription service to carry all your music with you

Pack in your vehicle

Cooler - sandwiches, hummus and veggies, juice, sodas, boiled eggs, cheese, chocolate, ice cubes
Snacks - chips, breakfast bars, granola, nuts
Paper towels
Reusable water bottle, coffee cup
Cash and change for tolls
Sunglasses
Chap stick or lip gloss
Tissues
Hand lotion
Sunscreen
Rags or towels
Rain gear
Neck pillow
Blanket or jacket - can be used to block sun, if your travel partner likes the a/c colder than you do, or use to cover items left in the vehicle when you are parked to deter theft
Noise canceling headphones or earbuds
Small first aid kit - bandaids, thermometer, anti diarrhea, pain/fever reducer, cold/flu medications
Documents - driver license, passport if crossing boarders, auto registration, AAA card, proof of insurance
Emergency auto kit - flares, cones, items to change spare tires, tire repair foam, road service contact numbers
